The ambulatory medical director provides supervision of assigned Primary Care Medical Staff, seamless coordination with non-medical clinic providers, and patient centered collaboration with other essential ambulatory care staff. They provide full primary care and urgent health care services to patients who present to the primary care and other ambulatory clinics. Seek to create systems and processes that encourage staff to function at the top of their license, make decisions based on the greatest value, and include both individual and population wide metrics in accomplishing the team's mission, vision, and goals.

Job Responsibilities

• As the supervising staff physician, performs and provides the diagnosis, care, and treatment of primary care patients. Provides clinical and administrative supervision of all the medical staff, including contract medical staff. Make appropriate medical referrals to the private sector hospitals and specialists for clinic patients.
• Ensure that the Clinic is always staffed adequately to meet the medical care needs of the patients. Ensures all new providers have received proper orientation. Ensures that all medical staff are credentialed prior to reporting for duty at Clinic.
• Ensure that all medical staff are properly onboarded and trained and that all licenses and necessary certifications are always current. Ensures that the Clinic follows all applicable CMS Conditions of Participation and other accrediting organizations as they relate to the Primary Care Clinic environment.
• Seamlessly coordinate patient centered integrated care with provider and essential services providers and staff including dietary, behavioral, case management, and others.
• Work closely with the CMO, CNO, and Quality staff to ensure quality and safety is provided, continuously improved, and value informed.
• Stay proficient in electronic medical records. Ensures that all documentation is complete and acceptable for his/her staff.
• Work closely with private sector hospitals, physicians, and referral centers to ensure a comprehensive medical referral process is in place.
• Participate in all medical staff and quality management functions including professional peer review, OPPE and FPPE.
• Provide preceptorship and support for family practice residency program.
• Ensure that the Clinic has the necessary medical equipment in place to provide appropriate medical care.
• Make decisions in matters of significance as related to Primary Care and other ambulatory care clinics.
• Ensure collaboration and joint decision making with team members, Clinic staff and leadership.
• Approves vacation requests from Ambulatory providers.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a United States or Canadian medical school approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of applicant’s graduation. Or a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a medical school not of the USA or Canada that provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, as demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or Fifth Pathway Certificate.
• Completed a Residency Program in Family Medicine.
• BLS, ACLS & PALS certified.
• Experience with integrated, patient focused primary care teams and workflows.
• Understanding of the principles of population health and value-based care.
