Job description

Job description

Step into an academic Maternal Fetal Medicine role where leadership is central to the position, not something you have to wait years to pursue. The incoming MFM will help direct a high-acuity Labor & Delivery service that serves as a destination for medically complex obstetric patients transferred from throughout the region. This is a mission-driven environment where maternal disease and social determinants of health create clinical complexity that can be difficult to replicate in lower-acuity settings. The position is particularly well suited to an experienced MFM who enjoys critical-care obstetrics and wants to remain clinically engaged while influencing how care is delivered. You will work closely with nursing and hospital leadership while helping mentor younger physicians and contribute to the department's next generation of academic leadership. For a physician who wants their clinical experience to translate into tangible program impact, this is an opportunity to lead from the front.

Position, Compensation & Organization

  • Director of Labor & Delivery leadership opportunity from the outset
  • $475,000 base salary to share while the compensation scale is under review
  • Additional group wRVU incentive opportunity with a 33,000-35,000 group target
  • Leadership stipend available, with amount dependent on the role
  • 4 days of direct patient care per week
  • High-risk clinics, antepartum care, inpatient consults, surgical MFM and ultrasound
  • Typical antepartum/inpatient MFM census of approximately 5-7 patients
  • More than 3,000 deliveries annually with significant high-acuity MFM involvement
  • Academic environment with an OB/GYN residency and accredited MFM fellowship
  • Protected academic time typically 0.1-0.2 based on individual interests
  • $75,000 sign-on incentive with relocation included
  • $2,500 CME allowance plus 5 CME days
  • Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance
  • Employer retirement contributions, professional liability coverage and PSLF eligibility
  • Medical license, DEA, recertifications, scrubs and related practice expenses covered

Make Memphis Home

Memphis offers the affordability to put down roots while still providing the connectivity and cultural character of a major regional city. Physicians can choose among established neighborhoods and suburbs, creating flexibility to live near the medical district or create more separation between work and home. Tennessee's lack of individual income tax on wages adds another financial advantage to the area's comparatively affordable housing market. An international airport makes getting in and out of the city convenient, whether travel is for work or time away. Beyond medicine, Memphis has built its identity around an unmistakable combination of music, food, and culture, giving physicians plenty to explore outside the hospital. Combined with a growing medical district, the city offers a practical home base for an academic physician who wants both professional opportunity and an approachable cost of living.?

Community Highlights

  • Comparatively affordable housing
  • No Tennessee individual income tax on wages
  • International airport access
  • Established suburbs and residential neighborhoods
  • Growing medical district
  • Distinctive music scene
  • Celebrated local food culture
  • Broad cultural amenities
