Client is seeking a compassionate and experienced Medical Director to provide physician leadership and clinical oversight at Davidson Detention Centers in Nashville, Tennessee.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Supervision:
Provide overall physician oversight of clinical services at the facility.
Supervise clinical services delivered by professional and paraprofessional healthcare staff.
Serve as a clinical resource to staff physicians and applicable clinical personnel.
Consult with community medical providers to resolve issues related to patient care and service delivery.
Provide on-call services as required.
Make independent clinical decisions when circumstances warrant.
Promote teamwork and collaboration across the healthcare team.
Patient Care & Medical Services:
Provide and oversee appropriate medical care for patients within the facility.
Complete sick call, chronic care, and infirmary care as required.
Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
Ensure appropriate continuity of care between facility-based and community healthcare services.
Review patient conditions and determine when off-site care or referral is appropriate.
Manage referrals to outside healthcare facilities with attention to appropriateness, quality, and continuity of care.
Utilize available in-house resources for treatment and problem resolution before pursuing off-site referrals when clinically appropriate.
Clinical Protocols & Quality:
Annually review and approve clinical protocols, policies, procedures, and medical disaster plans.
Follow evidence-based standards of medical care and established facility policies and procedures.
Ensure adherence to approved formularies and therapeutic regimens before utilizing non-formulary procedures.
Review non-formulary requests and ensure appropriate documentation of relevant observations and treatment conclusions.
Help establish and maintain clinical benchmarks that support high-quality correctional healthcare.
Ensure clinical practices promote quality, safety, consistency, and continuity of care.
Physician & Advanced Practice Provider Support:
Sponsor Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners in accordance with applicable state laws and requirements for correctional healthcare facilities.
Serve as a resource and clinical advisor to physicians and other applicable healthcare providers.
Assist with screening, interviewing, credential evaluation, and hiring of healthcare providers as needed.
Participate in in-service training and staff education programs.
Ensure healthcare personnel maintain appropriate clinical competencies.
Documentation & Compliance:
Document all patient encounters accurately in the medical record.
Ensure documentation is timely, legible, complete, and appropriately signed.
Ensure verbal and telephone orders are countersigned when required.
Maintain compliance with applicable clinical policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure competence in appropriate basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use.
Meetings & External Relations:
Attend medical, clinical, and other meetings as required.
Represent the healthcare program in discussions with local civic organizations or visiting officials when requested.
Communicate professionally with healthcare personnel, patients, families, government representatives, community providers, and other stakeholders.
Deal tactfully and professionally with personnel, visitors, government agencies, and members of the public.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited medical school.
Fully licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
Current DEA registration.
Board certification preferred.
Fluent in English, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
Experience in sub-acute inpatient care and hospitalist medicine required.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities.
Ability to work harmoniously with and supervise other healthcare personnel.
Ability to make independent decisions when clinical circumstances require.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Commitment to teamwork and a collaborative clinical environment.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be an experienced physician leader who can provide sound clinical judgment while working effectively within a correctional healthcare environment.
The ideal candidate will bring experience with sub-acute inpatient care and hospitalist medicine, strong communication skills, and the ability to supervise and support a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
You should be comfortable managing urgent clinical situations, coordinating off-site referrals, reviewing clinical protocols, supporting advanced practice providers, and maintaining high standards of documentation and evidence-based care.
