Overall Job Description
An established hospital in Warren, Ohio is seeking an experienced OB/GYN Physician Hospitalist/Laborist for an ongoing Locum-to-Permanent opportunity within its Labor & Delivery department.
The need is immediate and will continue while the hospital expands its employed physician and midwife team. This is an excellent opportunity for an OB/GYN who enjoys hospital-based obstetrics, high-acuity Labor & Delivery, procedural medicine, and working collaboratively with Certified Nurse Midwives and experienced L&D nursing staff.
Physicians will provide 7:00 AM–7:00 PM coverage, while midwives provide overnight coverage from 7:00 PM–7:00 AM with physician call backup.
The facility features a Level III nursery, onsite laboratory and ultrasound capabilities, Epic EMR, and an established clinical support team.
This assignment is designed as locum-to-perm, making it especially attractive for physicians who want the opportunity to experience the hospital and team before considering a long-term commitment.

Approved assignment-related travel expenses are reimbursed, including:

Job Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage patients presenting to Labor & Delivery.
Manage both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies.
Assess labor progression and determine appropriate clinical interventions.
Perform routine vaginal deliveries.
Manage complicated and high-risk deliveries.
Perform and manage Cesarean sections when clinically indicated.
Manage breech presentations, multiple gestations, placental abruptions, and other complicated deliveries.
Manage and perform VBAC deliveries when appropriate.
Perform low-forceps deliveries when clinically indicated and within privileges.
Repair third- and fourth-degree obstetrical lacerations.
Provide physician decision-making and intervention when surgical delivery is required.
Provide appropriate GYN coverage for unassigned Emergency Department patients.
Perform required gynecologic procedures within scope of practice and hospital privileges.
Perform diagnostic/minor laparoscopic procedures, including tubal ligation, lysis of adhesions, and related procedures as appropriate.
Perform open surgical gynecologic procedures when clinically required.
Collaborate closely with Certified Nurse Midwives, L&D nurses, physicians, and other members of the hospital team.
Provide overnight physician call support for the midwife covering the 7:00 PM–7:00 AM shift.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic EMR.
Follow all hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, and established standards of OB/GYN care.
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible — REQUIRED
BLS — REQUIRED
ACLS — REQUIRED
PALS — REQUIRED
Ohio medical license required
Candidates who do not currently hold an Ohio license may be considered if willing to obtain one
Must meet hospital credentialing and privileging requirements.
Self-Query NPDB Report REQUIRED at time of presentation
Report must have been obtained within the previous 30 days
Must be able to obtain appropriate privileges for the required obstetrical, L&D, and gynecologic procedures.
Estimated credentialing timeframe: approximately 120 days
Working Hours
7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
12-hour day shifts
Ongoing coverage
Start as soon as credentialing is completed
Assignment expected to continue until additional permanent physicians are hired
Overnight Coverage:
Certified Nurse Midwife provides coverage 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Physician provides overnight call backup for the midwife
This is a locum-to-permanent opportunity, allowing interested physicians to potentially transition into direct employment with the hospital.
Skills
Ability to independently manage both routine and complicated obstetrical presentations.
Strong clinical skills in high-risk obstetrics.
Proficiency with vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections.
Experience managing complicated deliveries, including breech presentations, multiple births, abruptions, and VBACs.
Ability to recognize rapidly evolving maternal and fetal emergencies and intervene appropriately.
Strong surgical decision-making skills, including determining when Cesarean delivery is required.
Ability to repair third- and fourth-degree obstetrical lacerations.
Competency with required gynecologic and laparoscopic procedures.
Ability to provide emergency GYN evaluation and treatment for unassigned patients.
Comfortable practicing in a hospital-based L&D environment with a Level III nursery.
Strong collaboration skills when working with Certified Nurse Midwives, RNs, APPs, and fellow physicians.
Excellent clinical judgment and ability to make timely decisions in high-acuity situations.
Strong patient and family communication skills.
Proficiency with Epic EMR preferred.
Dependable and able to provide consistent ongoing coverage.
