Job description
Seeking full-time Hospitalist Physicians to join a growing, high-quality inpatient program. Flexibility for candidates to be considered for either a pure clinical hospitalist role or a 50/50 Academic Hospitalist Faculty position in partnership with a new medical school launching in Summer 2026.
Two Pathways Available:
- Academic Hospitalist (50% Clinical / 50% Academic)
- 1 week/month inpatient service (7 consecutive 12-hr shifts)
- 50% protected academic time
- Core faculty role helping build new medical school curriculum
- Teaching across all 4 years (pre-clerkship, clerkships, sub-Is)
- Non-Teaching Hospitalist (Clinical-Only)
- 7 on / 7 off schedule (DAYS)
- 12-hour shifts averaging ~15 shifts/month
- Dedicated admitter support
- Focus strictly on inpatient care with strong work-life balance
Clinical Responsibilities (Both Tracks)
- Provide comprehensive inpatient internal medicine care
- Manage admissions, consults, observation, and transfers
- Perform H&Ps, diagnostic workups, and treatment planning
- Interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic studies
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds
- Coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care
- Maintain timely documentation in Epic EMR
- Participate in quality initiatives (LOS, readmissions, sepsis, patient safety)
Academic Responsibilities (Academic Track Only)
- Teach across all 4 years of medical school curriculum
- Facilitate case-based and small-group learning
- Provide bedside teaching and student evaluations
- Precept clerkships and sub-internships
- Develop curriculum, assessments, and LCME-aligned materials
- Participate in faculty committees and academic governance
- Engage in scholarly activity (education, QI, or clinical innovation)
Requirements
- MD or DO
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
- Eligible for North Carolina medical licensure
- Strong inpatient clinical experience
- Teaching experience preferred (required for academic track)
- Interest in academic medicine and curriculum development (academic role only)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
