Join Our Team as a Locum - Physician - OB Hospitalist in Christiansburg, VA
Are you a dedicated OB hospitalist seeking a flexible, rewarding opportunity to make a difference? We are looking for experienced physicians to provide exceptional obstetric hospitalist coverage in Christiansburg, VA. This dynamic role offers a chance to work in a supportive environment with robust resources, contributing to high-quality maternal care while enjoying competitive compensation.
In this position, you'll be integral to managing a busy obstetric unit, supporting approximately 72 deliveries per month, with a mix of assigned and unassigned patients. You will collaborate with backup providers, including other OBs, general surgeons, and ER physicians, ensuring seamless patient care. The hospital boasts in-house anesthesia 24/7 and maintains a Level 3B NICU at the parent facility, along with 10 newborn bassinets and 10 LDRPs. Your responsibilities will include emergent gynecological cases, with no mandated GYN coverage outside emergency scenarios, and support from MFM specialists available onsite (not overnight).

Required Skills:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Board-certified or Board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Current, valid medical license in Virginia or ability to obtain one
- Proven experience in obstetric hospitalist or inpatient OB/GYN care
- Ability to work independently with strong clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle emergent gynecological cases confidently
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience working in Level 3 or 3B NICU settings
- Familiarity with high-volume delivery units
- Multilingual abilities
- Experience with hospital electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
- Minimum of 2 years post-residency OB hospitalist experience
- Active Virginia medical license or eligible for licensure
Other Requirements:
- Availability for locum shifts starting February 1, 2026
- Ability to work flexible scheduling as needed
- Willingness to travel and adapt to various healthcare settings
- Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
