To our prospective teammates,

I am the Chief Medical Officer for the South Region and Sound Physicians. I’m proud of the hospital medicine practice we’ve built and welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or looking to make a career change. I want to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • Flexibility is key to healthcare, and our healthcare teams are experts at responding to patient conditions, treatment plans, and organizational policies.
  • Our team is cohesive, highly functional, mutually helpful, and shares the goal of delivering high-quality care to our patients.
  • My leadership style combines servant and transformational leadership, inspiring and motivating team members to achieve their full potential, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement. I prioritize the well-being and development of my team members, emphasizing collaboration, empathy, a positive culture, and a supportive environment.
  • We value our team members’ solution-oriented nature, willingness to learn, and commitment to fostering clear communication and a positive work culture, supporting one another, and stepping up for the team’s success.
  • Our team exceeds expectations and proactively participates in hospital committees and quality improvement projects.
  • We embrace Rob Bessler’s vision and the organization’s values of quality, service, integrity, teamwork, and innovation. We are on a mission to grow strong clinical leaders in healthcare.
Practice
  • Mandatory clinical shifts: 72 annually (averaging 6 per month), with the opportunity for up to 5 additional shifts per month (maximum of 11 with prior approval).
  • The compensation rates vary based on shift, with $1,400 for day shifts, $1,525 for swing shifts, and $1,725 for night shifts.
  • The Medical Director stipend amounts to $50,000 annually, paid monthly.
  • With a minimum of 6 clinical shifts per month, the total annual compensation amounts to $305,500, including $100,800 for six clinical shifts monthly and $154,700 for administrative shifts.
  • An annual quality bonus of $10,000 is provided each year. Eligibility for a quarterly RVU bonus and an annual medical director bonus is provided.
  • We utilize the AdventHealth dashboard, developed in coalition with experts at SHM, to measure outcomes.
  • Our hospital customizes O/E metrics according to patient documentation while maintaining an impressive GMLOS O/E score consistently below 1 for the past three years.
  • We achieved a 5-star score in mortality.
  • Our multi-disciplinary rounds are rated the best in the system.
  • Enjoy the lowest physician turnover over the last five years.
  • What distinguishes our group is the work-life balance we’ve meticulously crafted. We’ve divided the admitter and rounding roles as much as possible, allowing our physicians to focus on specific responsibilities they are passionate about.
  • We welcome internal medicine trained board certified; no procedural skills are needed.
  • Effective team dynamics, leadership styles, and healthcare practices prioritize collaboration, communication, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement. Leaders play a crucial role in fostering a positive and supportive working environment, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes.
  • Must be board-certified in internal medicine, ACLS, and BLS.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to adapt, learn and grow.
  • We work in Meditech, with access to our internal informatics platform.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • Our goal is to provide value to our partner hospital and be involved in committees. These include but are not limited to medical executive committee, sepsis, stroke, chest pain, clinical pertinence, glycemic committee, readmissions, mortality reviews, pharmacy, and therapeutics.
  • We support the community with health initiatives, delivering evidence-based, high-quality healthcare and collaborating with primary care physicians and post-acute care facilities.
  • The aging population, substance abuse, and non-compliance are common challenges.
  • We support our community by practicing high-quality clinical care and evidence-based medicine, focusing on patient experience and education.
