Job Description

Last Update: 3/27/24

To our prospective teammates,

I have served as the medical director at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth, Texas, for Sound’s medical group for six years. I welcome physicians stepping out of training or seeking a fulfilling career change. I’d like to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • We are a large, diverse hospitalist group proudly serving a growing population at a level one trauma/safety net hospital. Our team prioritizes a patient-first approach while fostering a collegial and supportive work environment. Our productive and efficient team can manage volume fluctuations and complex medical and social situations.
  • As medical director, I strive to help our physicians and APPs perform at their highest level by providing autonomy, resources, and support when needed. We value team members who take pride in their work, provide care for those in vulnerable states, embrace our group culture, support colleagues, and use constructive feedback for self-growth.
  • We create an enjoyable workplace by providing essential support and resources, encouraging social interactions with colleagues, and nurturing relationships with team members while making every day count.
  • My journey with Sound began immediately after my residency. Sound’s core values sparked my initial interest, but the actual value of Sound comes from the experience, knowledge, and relationships we build within the team. Sound provided me with the resources and mentorship to grow as a clinician and a leader.
Practice
  • JPS is a closed ICU with 537 beds, making us the largest group in the hospital. We care for most patients while collaborating with our hospital partners to provide high-quality, efficient, patient-centered care.
  • We have shown the value we can provide in teaming with the hospital to align our goals and create positive change.
  • Our office hosts a very close, relaxed, and friendly environment.
  • We provide initial healthcare interactions, medical care, education, and support to a patient population that often lacks access to routine medical care and health-related resources.
  • We work in EPIC, with access to our internal informatics platform.
  • We offer compensation of $1,370 (day) to $1,499 (swing) and $1,720 (nights) per shift, along with quality and productivity incentives.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
  • Requirements for this role include board eligibility or certification in internal medicine (IM) or family medicine (FM), the capacity to handle complex medical and social scenarios, and a patient-centered, compassionate mindset.
  • We proudly offer H1-B sponsorship through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Purpose
  • We encourage our team to participate within the hospital, with many contributing to multiple hospital-wide committees, including utilization review, sepsis, CHF, diabetes management, and patient experience.
  • Our involvement in the homeless/unsheltered census count has helped our JPS street medicine program identify locations and numbers for our homeless population.
  • We support patients with limited healthcare access, including uninsured, and indigent populations.
  • Our goal as a healthcare provider goes beyond providing immediate medical care to understand our patients’ difficulties, provide available resources, and continuously educate them to improve their overall quality of life.
  • We are a well-organized team with updated systems, offering teaching tools and educational programs through Sound. Fort Worth, Texas, is a great place to live due to its unique blend of vibrant cultural offerings, including world-class museums, a thriving music scene, a strong sense of community, and a lower cost of living than many other major cities.
