Job Description

Last Update: 4/16/24

To our prospective teammates,

I’m the interim medical director for Tri-City Medical Center, located in Oceanside, California. I’ve been a part of Sound Physicians for over four years, helping maintain and grow our hospitalist programs nationwide. We seek a Hospitalist Medical Director and welcome any internal medicine-trained clinicians with leadership experience. I’d like to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • We’re a closely-knit, established 21-clinician team with physicians, two advanced practice providers, and a CPN.
  • Our team is comprised of highly experienced clinicians with a few newer doctors. Many of the part-time clinicians own private practice clinics, too.
  • We are non-geographic, and clinicians work independently. Some work on a dyad with an APP.
  • Oceanside is 40 miles north of San Diego and 90 miles south of Los Angeles. The community is the quintessential definition of a Southern California beach town.
  • The laid-back coastal city rests along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, offering year-round pleasant temperatures and sunshine as the backdrop for endless adventures.
Practice
  • The hospital is a full-service, acute-care public hospital with 365 licensed medical beds and a 28-bed ICU.
  • The expected annual compensation for this role is $350K- $360K, plus commencement bonus and relocation reimbursement.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
  • Path to Partnership program for Medical Director employed physicians – at year 1, the partnership is evaluated, and partners can double their productivity bonuses.
Purpose
  • Our hospitalist practice is collaborative; some clinicians have worked here for over 20 years. The team is deeply embedded in the hospital; some are also physician advisors and chief of staff. They are very proud of their community.
  • We value and support growth and development in our hospital medicine practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.

People enjoy living in Oceanside, California, for its picturesque beaches, vibrant coastal lifestyle, and moderate climate, offering ample outdoor activities like surfing, hiking, and beachcombing. Its proximity to major urban centers like San Diego and Los Angeles also provides residents with diverse cultural and entertainment experiences.
