Medical Director – Hospice & Palliative Care

A respected, mission-driven healthcare organization is seeking a Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for its hospice and palliative care program in the South Central Kentucky region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate physician leader who enjoys combining clinical care, interdisciplinary collaboration, physician leadership, quality improvement, and meaningful patient/family interaction.

The Medical Director will work closely with executive and nursing leadership while serving as a key clinical resource for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, patients, families, and community healthcare partners.

Position Highlights

• Provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for hospice and palliative care services
• Support high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care
• Provide clinical guidance to physicians, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary team members
• Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings
• Support individualized plans of care for patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses
• Provide consultation regarding complex clinical and end-of-life situations
• Conduct patient visits in appropriate clinical settings, including homes, hospitals, hospice facilities, and long-term care environments
• Participate in physician coverage and clinical decision-making
• Provide oversight of General Inpatient (GIP) hospice patients
• Support appropriate pain and symptom management
• Counsel patients and families regarding disease progression, goals of care, and treatment decisions
• Collaborate with attending physicians, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community providers
• Participate in quality improvement and QAPI initiatives
• Support clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, and quality standards
• Provide ongoing clinical education and mentorship to members of the care team
• Help strengthen relationships throughout the local medical community

Ideal Candidate

The ideal physician will bring strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to caring for patients and families facing serious illness and end-of-life situations.

Candidates with experience in hospice, palliative medicine, geriatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or another related specialty may be considered, with direct hospice/palliative experience strongly preferred.

The successful candidate should be comfortable functioning as both a clinical leader and active member of an interdisciplinary care team.
