Job description

Job description A hospital-based cancer center in Grand Rapids, Michigan needs a hematologist oncologist from now through December 31, 2026. The schedule is flexible: two to five days a week and two to four weeks a month, so you can build it around your own calendar.

This is mostly hematology, more than 90 percent, and benign hematology patients outnumber malignant ones. It is a community practice, so there is no bone marrow transplant or academic-level work. A small share of solid tumor patients may land on your schedule.

Outpatient clinic runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, about 15 patients a day, with inpatient consults at 10 to 15 patients a day and an attached infusion center. You will have a team of APPs, a radiation oncologist on site, and Epic. After-hours call is a shared pool at 1 in 5, 5pm to 7am, with APP support.

Pay is $262.50 an hour. Night call pays $375 per shift and callback pays $393.75 an hour. Travel is covered. Start as soon as you are credentialed, and credentialing can be expedited with a clean background.

Job Responsibilities

Provide hematology and oncology coverage in an outpatient clinic and infusion center, with inpatient consults. See benign and malignant hematology patients and occasional solid tumor patients. Perform FNA and biopsy procedures. Participate in tumor board. Order tests and imaging, and prescribe. Take after-hours call as part of a shared 1 in 5 pool. Document in Epic.

Qualifications

Board certified in hematology and oncology. Current BLS. Active Michigan license strongly preferred, and physicians who need to obtain one will be reviewed. Comfortable with FNA and biopsy and with tumor board participation.

Working Hours

Outpatient clinic Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. After-hours call 5pm to 7am in a shared 1 in 5 pool. Two to five days a week and two to four weeks a month. Start now through December 31, 2026, with a possible extension for the right provider.

Skills

Hematology, medical oncology, benign hematology, FNA and biopsy, tumor board, inpatient consults, infusion center, Epic.
