A hospital in the Redding, California area needs a hematologist/oncologist to cover its outpatient oncology clinic and infusion center, with a week-by-week schedule running from October 19 through December 31. $508.20 an hour for clinic, plus call pay on weeknights and weekends. Travel and expenses are covered.

Job Responsibilities

Serve as the physician for the outpatient oncology and hematology clinic and the infusion center, seeing 15 to 20 patients a day. The work spans diagnosis, staging, precision medicine, symptom management, and treatment across all tumor types. You oversee clinic and infusion services and are on site for all infusion treatments, which include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, hormone therapy, antibiotic therapy, rheumatoid arthritis injections, and therapeutic phlebotomies. You are the only physician, supported by a midlevel provider, a clinic RN, 2 MAs, 2 front office staff, a quality analyst, and 10 infusion nurses. Call includes hospital consults, and for admissions you work directly with the ER physician or hospitalist. iKnowMed in clinic and Cerner in infusion.

Qualifications

Board certified or board eligible in hematology and oncology, with fellowship training. An active California license, required, with no compact option. A DEA. ACLS is needed only if you request moderate sedation privileges. Credentialing takes 30 to 60 days and temporary privileges are not available, so apply early.

Working Hours

Clinic Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with weeknight call Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 8am, and remote weekend call from Friday 5pm to Monday 8am. Weeks needed: Oct 19 to 23, Oct 26 to 30, Nov 2 to 6, Nov 16 to 20, Nov 23 to 25, Nov 30 to Dec 4, Dec 7 to 11, Dec 14 to 18, Dec 21 to 24, and Dec 28 to 31. Pay: $508.20 an hour for clinic and callbacks, $893.20 for weeknight call (the first 2.5 hours of callbacks included), and $2,233 for the weekend (the first 4 hours included). Holiday rates are higher: $762.30 an hour, $1,339.80 for a holiday night, and $3,349.50 for a holiday weekend day.
