Full-Time Medical Oncology/Hematology Physician

Lakewood Health System is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Medical Oncology/Hematology physician to join our growing Cancer Center team in Staples, Minnesota.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern, comprehensive cancer program in a close-knit rural community, where physicians have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients and families while practicing with a high degree of collaboration and autonomy.

Position Highlights

• Join an established oncology team including two Medical Oncologists, one Radiation Oncologist, and two Nurse Practitioners
• Practice in a new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center, opened in 2025
• Provide a broad-spectrum Medical Oncology/Hematology practice
• Primarily outpatient practice with infusion oversight
• Strong multidisciplinary support including:
  • Dedicated Oncology Pharmacist
  • Two Financial Navigators
  • Nurse Case Management
  • Social Services
  • Palliative Care
  • Infusion Nursing
  • Radiation Oncology
• Close collaboration with Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, Primary Care, and other specialty services
• Collaborate closely with Inpatient and Emergency Department teams to support patients throughout the continuum of their cancer care
• Opportunity to build strong working relationships with hospitalists, Emergency Department providers, nursing teams, primary care providers, and specialty services
• Participate in a collaborative, team-based approach to cancer care, including multidisciplinary case review and treatment planning
• Opportunity to help shape and grow a developing oncology program based on the needs of our patients and community

• 6 additional infusion bays for non-oncology patients

Oncology is a newer specialty service at Lakewood Health System, creating a unique opportunity for the right physician to help shape the continued growth and development of the program.

This position is about more than providing excellent oncology care. It is an opportunity to build relationships across the organization, establish strong communication and collaboration with inpatient and Emergency Department teams, and help develop processes that support patients throughout their cancer journey.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop meaningful professional relationships with providers and teams throughout Lakewood, including primary care, hospital medicine, Emergency Department, nursing, pharmacy, surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, and other specialty services.

Because the oncology program continues to grow, mentorship, collaboration, and relationship-building are highly valued. We are looking for a physician who enjoys working as part of a team, is comfortable helping develop a growing service line, and wants to have a meaningful voice in how oncology care continues to evolve at Lakewood.

At the same time, the physician will be supported by a growing oncology infrastructure that includes dedicated oncology pharmacy, financial navigation, nurse case management, social services, palliative care, infusion nursing, radiation oncology, and other clinical and support services.

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Medical Oncology/Hematology
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota
• Strong clinical decision-making skills

• Interest in providing comprehensive oncology/hematology care in a rural community
• Interest in collaboration, mentorship, and helping develop a growing oncology program

Teaching & Professional Development
