Seeking a Locum Hematology/Oncology Physician to provide ongoing clinical coverage across Chambersburg and Waynesboro, PA. The role includes outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic care, inpatient and emergency department consultations, hospital support, and a rotating call schedule.
The physician will treat primarily adult patients with a broad range of solid tumors and hematologic conditions, with approximately two thirds oncology and one third hematology. The practice provides chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IVIG, IV iron, and other oncology treatments in an outpatient setting.
Job Responsibilities
• Evaluate and manage adult oncology and hematology patients
• Conduct new patient consultations and established patient follow ups
• Manage treatment patients and monitor response to therapy
• Provide inpatient and emergency department Hematology/Oncology consultations
• Provide patient care guidance to hospital and emergency department teams
• Participate in weekend and night call coverage
• Participate in a rotating call schedule approximately 1 week per month
• Respond to hospital consultations and urgent clinical needs
• Provide chemotherapy and immunotherapy management in the outpatient setting
• Manage patients receiving IVIG and IV iron
• Coordinate care with radiation oncology and other specialists
• Participate in tumor board activities
• Serve as supervising physician for designated morning and afternoon sessions
• Support urgent patient needs when other providers are unavailable
• Document patient care using the appropriate electronic systems
• Collaborate with APPs, virtual hematology support, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
Qualifications
• Double Board Certification preferred
• Fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology required
• Active Pennsylvania License preferred
• IMLC may be considered
• Less experienced physicians may be considered
• Prior Hematology/Oncology clinical experience preferred
• Experience managing adult oncology and hematology patients
• Ability to provide inpatient and emergency consultations
• Comfortable with outpatient chemotherapy and immunotherapy management
• Experience with EPIC and electronic clinical documentation preferred
• Must be able to obtain privileges at both Chambersburg and Waynesboro locations
• Must meet credentialing and privileging requirements
Working Hours
• Full time ongoing coverage preferred
• Minimum coverage accepted: 3 days per week
• Approximately 15 patients per day
• Approximately 2 new patients per day
• New Hematology consultations: approximately 40 minutes
• New Oncology consultations: approximately 60 minutes
• Pre treatment and established follow ups: approximately 20 minutes
• Hospital consultation and rounding time: approximately 1–2 hours as needed
• Weekend call required
• Night call required
• Call rotation: approximately 1 week per month
• Typical call volume: 0–2 calls per day
• Call includes both inpatient and telephone consultations
• Contract coverage approved through March 31, 2027
