We are seeking a qualified Hematology Oncologist for a full-time, ongoing locum tenens assignment at a CoC-accredited oncology program in Eureka, California. This position offers a structured outpatient clinic routine integrated with a chemo treatment center, complemented by low-burden, phone-only call coverage.

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Hematology Oncology
  • Start Date: October 1, 2026 (September start available via expedited temporary privileges for clean files)
  • End Date: Ongoing
  • Availability Required: Full-Time (4 weeks per month)
  • Coverage Type: Inpatient & Outpatient (Clinic + Call)
  • Shift Times: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (1-hour unpaid lunch)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 8 hours per day (Overtime kicks in after 10 hours/day and requires pre-approval from the clinic manager).

Call Schedule & Logistics

  • Frequency: Shared rotation (On-call 1 out of every 3 weeks).
  • Call Type: 100% Phone Coverage Only * Details: Providers handle regular hours in the clinic and manage phone consultation call in the evening. Weekends are 24-hour call blocks. Physicians are expected to respond by phone ONLY; there is no onsite call-back required.

Facility & Program Details

  • Setting: The outpatient oncology clinic is directly attached to the hospital and the active chemo treatment center.
  • Volume: Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredited program managing approximately 500 analytic cases annually.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Epic

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Board Certification: Board Eligible (BE) provider within 3–5 years of residency completion.
  • Licensure: Active California (CA) medical license and active DEA.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • Privileging / Case Log Requirements: * Providers must submit 2 years of recent inpatient case logs/hospital clinical activity in the specialty to qualify for privileges.
    • Any practice gaps greater than 3 months must be fully documented and explained.

Credentialing Timeline

  • Standard Window: 60–90 Days.
  • Expedited Option: Candidates with a completely clean file (no past settlements, DUIs, board actions, or restrictions) may be eligible for emergency temporary privileges to accommodate an early September 2026 start.
