Locums - Grand Rapids, Michigan | Hematology/Oncology Opportunity

Clinical Role

Join an established cancer program in Grand Rapids, Michigan, providing comprehensive hematology and oncology care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This locums opportunity is available to cover an extended FMLA leave and offers a predominantly hematology-focused practice with strong APP support and collaborative physician coverage.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

Approximately October 1, 2025

Contract Length:

Through December 31, 2026

Coverage Requirements:

Coverage needed for an FMLA leave

No extension anticipated

Active Michigan license strongly preferred, but candidates requiring licensure will be considered

Schedule:

Monday through Friday

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM outpatient clinic schedule

After-hours call participation required

Call Schedule:

Shared call pool with APP support

5:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Call ratio of approximately 1:5

Position Highlights

Predominantly hematology-focused practice

Approximately greater than 90% hematology and less than 10% solid tumor oncology

Practice includes both malignant and benign hematology

Comprehensive cancer center attached to the hospital

Strong APP support in both inpatient and outpatient settings

Epic EMR system

Long-term locums assignment

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

Outpatient clinic

Infusion center

Inpatient consult service

Cancer center attached to hospital

Patient Population:

Adult patients

Geriatric patients

Clinical Focus:

Benign hematology

Malignant hematology

Limited solid tumor oncology coverage as needed

Community oncology practice

No bone marrow transplant or tertiary academic-level oncology services

Patient Volume:

Outpatient clinic: Approximately 15 patients per day

Hospital consults/call coverage: Approximately 10–15 patients per day

Clinical Responsibilities:

Outpatient hematology and oncology care

Inpatient hematology and oncology consultations

Participation in tumor board conferences

Ordering diagnostic tests and imaging

Prescribing medications and treatment plans

Shared call coverage for hematology and oncology patients

Required Procedures:

Fine needle aspiration (FNA)

Biopsy procedures

Support & Technology

Support Staff:

Six hematology/oncology physicians

Five inpatient APPs covering two hospitals

Six outpatient APPs

Radiation oncology support available onsite

EMR System:

Epic

Requirements

Board Certification in Hematology/Oncology – Required

Active Michigan License – Strongly preferred (candidates requiring licensure will be considered)

Experience with benign and malignant hematology – Required

Ability to perform FNA and biopsy procedures – Required

Participation in tumor board activities – Required

Organization & Team

Established community cancer program

Six physician hematology/oncology practice

Strong physician and APP collaboration

Multidisciplinary oncology services including radiation oncology
