Job description
A well-established cancer center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Hematology/Oncology Physician for an ongoing locum tenens assignment. The provider will deliver both inpatient and outpatient oncology services in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with dedicated nursing, pharmacy, and support staff.
This is a full-time, ongoing opportunity for physicians seeking a consistent schedule with shared call responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct outpatient clinic visits, including new patient consultations and follow-up appointments.
Perform inpatient rounding and ongoing management of hospitalized oncology patients.
Evaluate and manage an average of 17 patients per day.
Respond to patient calls and chemotherapy-related questions.
Provide occasional Emergency Department consultations.
Participate in shared weekday night call and weekend call coverage.
Collaborate with nursing staff, pharmacists, radiation oncology, and multidisciplinary teams.
Participate in tumor board discussions as needed.
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology and Oncology
Ability to provide both inpatient and outpatient coverage
Working Hours
Assignment Type: Ongoing locum coverage
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Coverage Requirement: Full-time, 5 days per week
Call: Shared weekday night call plus some 24-hour weekend call
Skills
Experience managing oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Ability to independently manage chemotherapy-related patient concerns
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Proficiency with electronic medical records; experience with Mosaiq EMR preferred
Ability to manage patient volumes efficiently while maintaining high-quality care
