Job description
The Primary Care Physician provides comprehensive medical care to patients, including examination, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, referral, and follow-up. The physician also supports and consults with other healthcare providers, contributes to clinical operations, and participates in community health initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Interpret lab results and diagnostic tests; follow up with patients as appropriate.
Provide consultation to Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, and Physician Assistants.
Offer telephone consultations to patients and families when necessary.
Maintain accurate medical records, reports, and statistical data.
Support clinical services such as laboratory, pharmacy, specialty referrals, and emergency care.
Consult with staff regarding patient healthcare needs.
Participate in after-hours coverage, including nights, weekends, and hospital rounds.
Plan and implement medical programs and projects in collaboration with staff.
Precept medical students, residents, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students.
Professional Development & Quality
Participate in the development of in-service programs related to patient care and medical issues.
Accept assignments regarding patient care schedules, committee work, and quality assurance activities.
Maintain hospital admitting privileges or utilize hospitalist/inpatient services as necessary.
Community Engagement
Participate in community health activities and center initiatives outside regular duties.
Engage in staff problem-solving and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications
License to practice medicine in the state required and in good standing
DEA and BNDD registration numbers required
Medicare and Medicaid provider enrollment (including UPIN) required
Board-eligible or Board-certified preferred
Completion of a residency in primary care specialty preferred
Experience or strong interest in urban/community healthcare settings preferred
Working Hours
There is after-hours coverage, which may include weeknight, weekend calls, and hospital inpatient rounds.
Schedules can also include committee work, quality assurance, and other assignments, which may occasionally extend beyond regular clinic hours.
Skills
Ability to provide comprehensive primary care, including diagnosis, treatment, patient counseling, and follow-up.
Medical Consultation
Expertise in offering consultations to Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, Physician Assistants, and other medical staff.

Strong verbal and written communication, including the ability to communicate tactfully with patients, families, and colleagues.

Ability to work effectively in a team, fostering cooperation and conflict resolution among colleagues.

Managing patient care schedules, committee work, quality assurance duties, and on-call responsibilities efficiently.
