Job description
We are seeking a Gastroenterologist for a locum tenens position in Plattsburgh, NY. This is a general gastroenterology assignment covering inpatient consultations along with inpatient and outpatient endoscopy at an acute care hospital. Please see below for more information.
Job Responsibilities
Perform inpatient and outpatient general GI procedures, including colonoscopy and EGD
Practice independently across the full scope of general gastroenterology; ERCP and EUS are not required
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal disorders
Oversee and supervise the GI nurse practitioner in the management of GI consultations
Share responsibility with anesthesia for pre-operative and post-operative care on MAC cases
Assume responsibility for pre-operative and post-operative care on IV sedation cases
Perform emergent inpatient GI procedures as needed during call coverage
Perform procedures in a two-room setting (one OR and one endoscopy room) using Olympus 190 HD scopes
Collaborate with advanced practice providers, hospitalists, and multidisciplinary care teams
Document patient care activities accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
Provide weekend call coverage as scheduled
Qualifications
Board Certified in Gastroenterology
Active New York State medical license or eligibility to obtain
Eligible for medical staff privileges
Proficiency in colonoscopy and EGD
Working Hours
7:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Inpatient GI procedures with MAC anesthesia
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Outpatient GI procedures with MAC anesthesia
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Rounds with the GI NP and inpatient consultations
No scheduled overnight call Monday through Thursday
Friday: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM inpatient GI procedures with MAC anesthesia
Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM outpatient GI procedures with IV sedation
Friday 12:00 PM through Sunday 8:00 AM: call coverage, including Friday and Saturday nights
GI NP support is not available Friday through Sunday morning
Provider may work up to 48 hours per week
Call and weekends as required
Provider will be required to work 2 out of 4 winter holidays
