Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Gastroenterologist to provide locum tenens inpatient coverage at a well-established acute care hospital in Athens, Georgia. This opportunity is ideal for physicians looking for a flexible, hospital-based assignment focused on inpatient consults, GI procedures, and 24-hour call coverage without outpatient clinic responsibilities.

Compensation

• $3,500–$4,000 per 24-hour call shift
• Additional callback pay: Approximately $450–$500 per hour
• Travel, lodging, and malpractice coverage provided (where applicable).

Schedule

• 24-hour call coverage (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
• Inpatient rounding and hospital consults
• No outpatient clinic responsibilities
• Flexible locum assignment with potential for ongoing coverage opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient gastroenterology consultations.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures as clinically indicated.
• Manage new emergency department and inpatient GI consults.
• Round on hospitalized GI patients.
• Collaborate with hospitalists, surgeons, intensivists, and other specialists to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation using the Epic electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.
• Active Georgia medical license (or eligibility).
• DEA registration.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• ERCP experience preferred but not required for all assignments.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
