The Millington Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) has an opening for a Gastroenterologist that offers a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The CBOC is a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs and falls under the Memphis VA Medical Center. It’s one of the largest of twelve community-based clinics within the Memphis VA clinical network.
The Memphis VA is a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The main campus provides comprehensive care to almost 69,000 Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in vast areas of medicine, to include but not limited to cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, rheumatology, geriatrics, women’s health, and dentistry.

Job Responsibilities
• Provide consultation on various forms of gastrointestinal disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy and upper endoscopy.
• Supervise and teach neurology fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Lead and manage the neurology team consisting of gastroenterology fellows, residents, medical students, pharmacists, and mid-level providers while on inpatient service or in a clinical setting.
• Share attending call responsibilities with other gastroenterologists in covering some nights, weekend, and holiday calls as needed.
• Round with a team of fellows, residents, and medical students as regards to inpatient settings.
• Responsible for recognizing patients appropriate for referral or consultation with the collaborating physician. Consultations with collaborating physicians may occur through personal, telephone, or electronic media contact.
• Clinical activities may include, but are not limited to, clinical assessments and evaluations – inpatient and outpatient. Healthcare management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
• Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.
• Health promotion and disease prevention education: patients, family members, caregivers, staff education, and counseling.
• Administrative requirements include performance improvement activities, research, and non-clinical tasks as assigned.
• Exhibit leadership by initializing changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and findings from research and studies. Stays informed on developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illness through continuing medical education.
Qualifications
• MD/DO
• Residency: Internal Medicine
• Fellowship: Gastroenterology
• BE/EC in Gastroenterology
• Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at UTHSC
• Full and unrestricted license from ANY state
• US Citizenship
• Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language
Working Hours
• Work Schedule: Mon-Fri: 8AM-4:30PM
