Gastroenterologist Opportunity in North Carolina
Hickory, North Carolina
Full time
A healthcare system is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Gastroenterologist to join an established GI group serving a large multi-county patient population. This employed opportunity offers strong procedural volume, a collaborative team environment, and the ability to practice comprehensive gastroenterology with significant support resources.
Position Highlights
• Employed position serving a 50-mile regional patient population
• Only gastroenterology group in the county with a strong referral base
• Call rotation of approximately 1:7 (4–5 days per month)
• Team of 15 providers including 9 physicians and 6 advanced practice providers
• High procedural volumes with strong clinical demand
Procedural Volume
• Approximately 11,000 colonoscopies annually
• Approximately 3,500 EGDs annually
• Average of 31 colonoscopies and 10 EGDs per physician each week
• Additional procedures include sigmoidoscopies and other GI endoscopic procedures
• EUS experience preferred but not required
Clinic & Facility Overview
• Clinic located in a Medical Specialties Building across from a regional medical center
• Endoscopy Center located within the same building
• 20 exam rooms and private physician offices
• On-site infusion room
• Dedicated Medical Assistant support for each physician
• Six APPs supporting clinic operations
Endoscopy Center
• Three GI suites equipped with Olympus 190 scopes
• 12–14 procedures per room per day
• Dedicated CRNAs, scrub technicians, and pre/post-op nursing staff
• Block scheduling system for procedures
Hospital Surgical Facilities
• Two GI procedure suites available in the hospital
• Average of 10 procedures daily
• Full anesthesia coverage available 24/7
Clinical Schedule
• Clinic hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Endoscopy Center hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Clinic patient volume averages 17–20 patients per day after ramp-up
• New patient visits: 30 minutes
• Follow-up visits: 15 minutes
Workflow Structure
• Morning procedures followed by afternoon clinic visits
• Weekly administrative half-day for documentation and task management
• Dedicated inpatient hospitalist coverage rotating one week at a time
Hospital Coverage
• Weeknight call coverage from 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend call coverage from Saturday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM
• No inpatient rounding required during call hours
• Inpatient service rotates one week at a time (1:7) with APP support
• During inpatient weeks, no outpatient clinic or procedures are scheduled

• Hospital EMR: Meditech
• Fast-track program for procedures with a 90% conversion rate
