Position Overview

Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center is seeking Advanced Gastroenterology weekend call coverage to support a busy GI service line. This is a procedural, hospital-based role requiring strong ERCP skills and comfort managing acute inpatient GI cases over weekend blocks.

The assignment offers consistent, recurring weekend 24-hour call from Friday evening through Monday morning across multiple months, ideal for physicians who want predictable, high-value weekend work while keeping weekdays flexible.

Schedule & Coverage

  • Type: 24-hour call

  • Pattern: Friday 5 pm to Monday 7 am

  • Frequency: Multiple weekends available each month from January through June

  • Setting: Hospital-based GI call with access to GI suite, imaging, and full ancillary support

  • Patient population: Adult

  • EMR: Epic

Credentialing timeframe is approximately 90 days, with clean malpractice history required for temp privileges.

Clinical Scope

The physician must be comfortable with a full advanced GI scope, including:

Upper GI:

  • Diagnostic EGD

  • Biopsy

  • Foreign body removal

  • Bleeder control (cautery/laser)

  • Variceal banding

  • Variceal injection

  • PEG placement

  • Therapeutic EGD

ERCP (Required):

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP

  • Stone extraction, stenting, and related interventions

EUS (Preferred)

Lower GI:

  • Sigmoidoscopy

  • Colonoscopy including biopsy and polypectomy

Additional Procedures:

  • Esophageal dilation

  • Esophageal manometry and interpretation

  • Small bowel biopsy

  • Liver biopsy

  • Management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube

Expected volume is approximately eight procedures per weekend, including GI, hepatology, ERCP, EGD, and colon cases.

Candidate Requirements

  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology

  • Active Virginia medical license

  • Proven ERCP experience (required)

  • EUS experience (preferred)

  • Flu shot required

  • COVID vaccination highly preferred

  • Clean malpractice history

  • Availability to cover specified weekend blocks

Physicians should be comfortable functioning as the advanced GI resource for the hospital during the call period and coordinating care with the inpatient and hospitalist teams.

  • Hospital-based environment with GI suite, lab, and imaging onsite

  • Standard/economy travel and lodging covered per facility policy

  • Weekend-only coverage structure

  • No trauma designation
