Position Details
Setting: Inpatient Advanced GI coverage at a large acute-care hospital
Start Date: January 2026 (temp privs available)
Duration: Ongoing need; 1–2 weeks per month
Shifts:

Weekdays: 7a–3p + night beeper call

Weekends: 24-hour beeper call
-
Block Schedule: Monday 7a → Monday 7a (minimum 7 consecutive days/month)
Coverage Needs:

Consistent monthly coverage required
-
Will consider physicians able to work as few as 7 consecutive days per month

No clinic; inpatient GI + procedures
Patient Population: Adult
Department: Advanced GI service for a high-acuity, 400+ bed Level I facility
EMR: EPIC
Orientation: All hours billable
COVID/Flu Requirements: Per facility guidelines
Work & Clinical Details
Scope of Practice:
Advanced GI with full procedural mix, including:

ERCP – minimum 150 in past 2 years (required)
-
EUS – required
-
Esophageal/Duodenal/Luminal stent placements (20+ in past 2 years)
-
Argon plasma coagulation
-
Upper & lower endoscopy
-
Colonoscopy (100 in past 2 years at initial appointment; 150 at reappointment)
-
Diagnostic & therapeutic EGD
-
Hemostasis
-
Dilation: balloon, bougie, Savary
-
Enteral feeding access, PEG
-
Flexible sigmoidoscopy
-
24-hour pH monitoring & motility studies
-
H&P performance and general inpatient GI responsibilities
Hospital Environment:

Large regional medical center
-
Level 1 trauma designation

Robust weekday APP support
-
All adult patients
-
No outpatient clinic obligations
Call Requirements:

Night beeper call during weekdays
-
24-hour beeper call on weekends
-
Frequency aligned with block schedule

Malpractice: Provided
Credentialing: Temp privs available; standard packet includes moderate sedation module and post-test
Certifications & Requirements
-
Board Certified or truly Board Eligible in Gastroenterology

ERCP + EUS proficiency required
-
Ohio license or IMLC (facility open to licensing candidates)

DEA required
-
ACLS required
-
Moderate Sedation requirement: Must review facility training packet and complete post-test with ≥80% accuracy

Minimum Experience: 1 year post-training

Teaching/Trauma experience: Not specified or required in JD
