Job description

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is seeking a Board-Certified or Eligible Transplant Hepatologist to join our rapidly growing Liver Transplant Program at the LVHN-Cedar Crest Campus in Allentown, PA.

This is more than a position—it’s a rare opportunity to shape a world-class program in a region with unmatched patient volume and geographic reach. Serving the greater Lehigh Valley and surrounding Pennsylvania region, our program is strategically positioned to offer comprehensive liver care to one of the largest patient populations in the state.

Our Liver Transplant Program, launched in February 2025, has already exceeded predicted volumes, performing over 20 complex liver transplants in less than a year, including severe alcohol hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), simultaneous liver-kidney (SLK), neuroendocrine tumors (NET), acute liver failure (ALF), HCV, NAFLD, and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH).

Why LVHN?

  • Pioneer status: The only Liver Transplant Program in the greater Lehigh Valley region, providing unmatched access for patients.
  • World-class multidisciplinary team: Work alongside experienced surgeons, transplant hepatologists, oncologists, nephrologists, pathologists, and advanced practitioners.
  • Advanced GI expertise: EUS/ERCP, EUS-guided liver biopsy, TIPS, interventional radiology, and local regional therapy for liver tumors—including the only center in Pennsylvania offering histotripsy.
  • Comprehensive non-invasive liver assessment: Fibroscan and MR elastography for liver fibrosis evaluation.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Close participation in the Liver Tumor Board and ICU management of transplant patients.
  • Research and innovation: NIH-supported liver research center, biorepository, clinical research support, and opportunities in protocol development, education, and quality initiatives.
  • Proven excellence: LVHN surgeons perform over 85,000 surgeries annually—25% more than other regional centers, supported by a high-functioning minimally invasive and robotic donor/recipient program.
  • Robust multiorgan experience: 50+ years of kidney and pancreas transplant expertise, a leading living donor program, and unmatched surgical support.

What We’re Looking For:

  • An Ambassador for Liver Transplant: Passionate about innovation, patient care, and collaboration.
  • Board-Certified in Gastroenterology and Board-Certified or Eligible in Transplant Hepatology.
  • Eligible for PA State Medical License (or current license).
  • Preferred: Post-fellowship experience in clinical transplant hepatology and meeting UNOS criteria as a primary liver transplant physician.

Benefits:

  • Generous salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

Join a program where your clinical expertise, research ambitions, and leadership skills will directly shape the growth and impact of a world-class Liver Transplant Program—serving one of the largest patient populations in Pennsylvania.
