A community-focused Critical Access Hospital in South Dakota is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to provide comprehensive care across outpatient and inpatient settings.

This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who enjoys the variety, autonomy, and meaningful relationships that come with rural medicine.

The physician will provide care for patients of all ages, managing preventive care, chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and inpatient needs while working closely with a dedicated multidisciplinary healthcare team.

This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact in a close-knit community while practicing broad-spectrum Family Medicine in a supportive rural healthcare environment.

Job Responsibilities

Outpatient Family Medicine
Provide comprehensive primary care for patients across the lifespan
Conduct:
New patient evaluations
Follow-up visits
Physical examinations
Preventive care visits
Wellness evaluations
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
Provide preventive screenings, counseling, and health education
Develop individualized treatment plans
Coordinate specialty referrals when needed
Build long-term relationships with patients and families
Inpatient & Hospital Care
Admit and manage hospitalized patients
Perform daily rounds
Manage acute medical conditions
Coordinate care with:
Nursing teams
Specialists
Ancillary departments
Support discharge planning and continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient settings
Emergency & On-Call Responsibilities
Participate in physician call rotation
Support emergency medical services
Evaluate and manage acute patient needs
Collaborate with emergency, nursing, ambulance, and clinical teams
Quality & Team Collaboration
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Support patient safety efforts
Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nurses, and healthcare staff
Participate in community health initiatives

Qualifications

Required:
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Completion of accredited Family Medicine residency program
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
Active or eligible South Dakota medical license
Active or eligible DEA registration
Strong outpatient and inpatient clinical skills
Ability to provide comprehensive family medicine care
Willingness to participate in on-call rotation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
Preferred:
Previous rural medicine experience
Critical Access Hospital experience
Community-based practice experience
Experience managing both inpatient and outpatient Family Medicine
Comfortable practicing with a high degree of independence
