Job description
Our confidential client is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Family Medicine Physician to join a community-focused Critical Access Hospital serving patients throughout rural South Dakota.
This opportunity offers the variety and autonomy of full-spectrum Family Medicine in a close-knit community setting. The physician will provide care across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and on-call settings while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary clinical team.
The role is well suited for a physician who values long-term patient relationships, continuity of care, clinical variety, and meaningful community impact.
Job Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages
Conduct new-patient evaluations, follow-ups, physicals, and wellness visits
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions
Provide preventive care, screenings, counseling, and health education
Develop individualized treatment plans
Coordinate specialty referrals when appropriate
Build long-term relationships with patients and families
Inpatient & Hospital Care
Admit and manage patients requiring inpatient care
Conduct daily rounds
Manage acute medical conditions
Coordinate care with nursing, ancillary services, and consulting specialists
Provide appropriate discharge planning and follow-up
Maintain continuity between inpatient and outpatient care
Emergency & On-Call Coverage
Support emergency services as part of the medical center's clinical team
Participate in the physician on-call rotation
Respond to acute patient needs
Collaborate with emergency, nursing, ambulance, and other clinical personnel
Quality & Collaboration
Work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nurses, and allied health professionals
Maintain accurate and compliant medical documentation
Participate in quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives
Contribute to community health education and outreach
Support accessible, patient-centered rural healthcare
Patient Population
The physician will care for patients across the lifespan, including:
Pediatrics
Adults
Geriatric patients
Preventive and wellness care
Acute illnesses
Chronic disease management
Inpatient medical conditions
Emergency/urgent medical needs
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
Current or eligible South Dakota medical license
Current or eligible DEA registration
Strong clinical skills across preventive, acute, and chronic care
Ability to provide inpatient and outpatient care
Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
Working Hours
