Job description
A confidential, independent Critical Access Hospital in central South Dakota is seeking a Family Medicine Physician for a full-time, permanent position. This is a broad-scope rural medicine opportunity with clinical autonomy, manageable patient volumes, and dedicated support.

Compensation and Benefits
• Guaranteed base salary starting at $325,000
• Additional $75,000 annual Medical Director stipend

Medical Director Scope
Candidates who accept the leadership role will provide physician oversight and APP mentorship while partnering with hospital leadership on medical staff operations, policies, regulatory compliance, infection control, and quality improvement.
Practice Environment
The organization operates a 12-bed hospital with an attached Rural Health Clinic. Available resources include 24/7 emergency, laboratory, and radiology coverage, along with rehabilitation, infusion services, diagnostic imaging, outpatient procedures, telemedicine, and specialty outreach.
Qualifications
• MD or DO
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine
• South Dakota medical license or eligibility to obtain one
• DEA registration or eligibility
• Comfortable providing care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
• Willingness to participate in the call rotation
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaborative-care skills
Rural or community-based practice experience is welcomed but not required.
