Job description
Aya Locums is seeking a board-certified Family Medicine physician for a six-month commitment at a rural hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
Position Overview
The primary need is weekend call and coverage on a 1:4 or 1:5 rotation, with flexibility for additional weekends. Coverage includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and is primarily call-based.
Weekend responsibilities include:
- Morning rounds
- Pediatric admissions
- Emergency department support
- Adult admissions as needed
- Emergency department coverage, if applicable
Physicians interested in a more frequent schedule, including consecutive weekends, may be considered. Additional clinic shifts may also be available.
Schedule and Patient Volume
- Start date: August 31, 2026
- Six-month commitment
- Weekend coverage: Friday–Sunday
- Primary schedule: 1:4 or 1:5 weekend rotation
- Clinic schedule: Approximately 13–15 patients per day, if clinic shifts are added
- Hospital census: Approximately 7–9 medical and transitional care patients
- EMR: Epic
- Practice setting: Rural hospital
Telehospitalist coverage is available for adult admissions Monday–Thursday from 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., as well as 24-hour coverage on weekends and holidays. During weekday hours from 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., the physician on call manages admissions.
Call and Support
- Providers must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes when providing backup call
- Physicians working in the Emergency Department must be onsite
- Support staff includes an LPN or CMA, an RN within the care team, and an onsite interpreter
- Laboratory and imaging services are available 24/7
Requirements
- Board certification in Family Medicine
- Active Minnesota medical license
- Minimum of two years of experience
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certification
- Clean professional record with no malpractice claims or current or past lawsuits
- Local candidates preferred
- Two completed professional references required for submission
- References may be completed using Aya or facility forms
Credentialing
- Standard credentialing timeframe: Approximately 90 days
- Physicians already attributed to another CentraCare site may complete privileging within a few days
