Job description

Job description Help Build a New Family Medicine & OB Residency Program — Phelps Health, Rolla, Missouri

We're not building just another rural residency program. We're building THE program — and we need physicians who want to build it with us.

Phelps Health is launching a new ACGME-accredited Family Medicine/OB residency program, welcoming its first residents in Summer 2028. This is a rare opportunity for physicians who want more than a faculty title — the chance to shape curriculum, culture, and training philosophy from the very beginning, backed by an institution with the independence and stability to support it long-term.

Leadership & Faculty Opportunities

  • Residency Program Director — lead the program's development and long-term direction
  • Associate Program Director — partner in shaping curriculum and training structure
  • Residency Faculty — teach, mentor, and help define what rural FM/OB training should look like

Why This Program Is Different

  • We are our own sponsoring institution. Phelps Health isn't borrowing GME sponsorship from an outside academic center — we control the pace, priorities, and direction of this program directly.
  • An experienced interim Program Director is already in place, focused specifically on developing and preparing the incoming faculty team before residents ever arrive — you won't be building this alone or without guidance.
  • A people-centered approach. Our existing Family Medicine physicians are collaborative and genuinely eager to participate as faculty — this program is being built by people who want to teach, not physicians filling a requirement.
  • A true ground-floor opportunity. With residents not arriving until Summer 2028, faculty joining now will shape the program's foundation — not adapt to a structure someone else already built.

Why Phelps Health

  • Independent, county-owned hospital with a track record of reinvesting in the organization
  • Financially sound and growing, with leadership genuinely invested in physician success
  • Flexible practice models built around what works for physicians and patients
  • Epic EMR and DAX Copilot already in place, reducing documentation burden

Why Rolla, Missouri

  • Rolla offers big-city amenities with small-town cost of living — 90 minutes from St. Louis, with top-rated public schools, low crime, and endless outdoor access to the Ozarks and Mark Twain National Forest. It's also home to Missouri S&T, ranked Missouri's #1 public university for return on investment (Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce), giving the community a distinct academic and cultural energy uncommon in rural markets.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Guaranteed base salary each year of contract, benchmarked to MGMA data
  • Achievable wRVU bonus structure each year of contract
  • Signing bonus, relocation allowance, and residency stipend
  • J-1 Visa waiver eligible — Family Medicine is a priority specialty under the Delta Regional Authority program, supporting visa sponsorship for qualified international physicians
  • Student loan repayment program
  • Comprehensive benefits package
