Job description

Job description Locum emergency medicine coverage at a critical access hospital in the Jamestown, ND area, a Level IV trauma center with about 11,000 to 12,000 ED visits a year and an 8% admission rate. This is single-physician coverage with no APPs, on 12-hour shifts from 6 AM to 6 PM and 6 PM to 6 AM, and the hospital is mainly looking for night shifts. The schedule averages about 4 shifts a month and is set by date, starting December 24, 2026 and running into early April 2027. Specialty backup includes OB, orthopedics, ENT, urology, radiology, and pediatrics, with respiratory therapy in house, a helipad on site, and a sleep room for the physician. The hospital uses Epic. Compensation is highly competitive and shared directly. Lodging and mileage are covered, and new providers arrive a day before their first shift. An active North Dakota license is required, and emergency privileges are possible on a clean file.

Job Responsibilities

Provide single-physician emergency coverage for patients of all ages, with no APPs on the unit. Lead adult and pediatric resuscitations and trauma resuscitations, directing the nursing team and working with EMS. Perform intubation, central lines, chest tubes, and procedural sedation. Assess patients, order and interpret labs, imaging, and EKGs, and decide on admission, transfer, or discharge, including EMTALA-compliant transfers. Document in Epic and work with nursing and consultants to keep patients moving through the department.

Qualifications

Board certified in emergency medicine preferred, or family medicine with emergency medicine experience, ideally in rural or critical access settings. Active, unrestricted North Dakota medical license. Current ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and DEA. At least 2 years of emergency medicine experience. Proficient in intubation and advanced airway management, chest tubes, central lines, procedural sedation, adult and pediatric resuscitation, and orthopedic emergencies. Strong Epic experience.

Working Hours

12-hour shifts, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, mostly nights, about 4 shifts a month. No call. Set by date from December 24, 2026 into early April 2027. Arrive a day before your first shift.
