Job at a glance
Job description
A critical access hospital near Dubuque in eastern Iowa needs ongoing emergency medicine coverage. Three 24-hour shifts a month on average, 7a to 7a, with occasional 12-hour shifts.
The volume here is genuinely low. An average of four ED patients a day and about four inpatients across observation, acute and swing bed. Three ED treatment rooms, 20 inpatient beds. Call is in-house with a provider sleep room, which is the reason a 24 works at this site and would not elsewhere.
You carry inpatient responsibilities alongside the ED. Four advanced practice providers are on staff and you are not expected to supervise them. Two RNs cover all services with one CNA. Imaging, lab, pharmacy and rehabilitation services are on site, plus ambulatory surgery and infusion.
$192.50 an hour, which is $4,620 for a 24-hour shift. Lodging, rental car and mileage are reimbursed.
The hospital serves seventeen rural communities in a town of about 4,300, best known as the home of the Field of Dreams site and the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier.
