Job description

Job description • Lead and oversee the entire Emergency Department and Pediatric Emergency Department.
• Provide both clinical leadership and administrative oversight of ED operations, academics, residency, and fellowship programs.
• Work closely with hospital departments, medical staff, and the C-suite.
• ED volume is approximately 110,000–112,000 visits annually, including pediatrics.
• Modernized ED with 120 treatment areas, specialized treatment spaces, behavioral health services, triage/intake areas, and pediatric services.
• Supports advanced emergency, trauma, stroke, geriatric, pediatric, and referral care.
• Epic EMR, APP and scribe support, EMS control, specialty transport, and helicopter services.

Job Responsibilities

• Chair and oversee Emergency Medicine operations and Pediatric Emergency Department services.
• Lead clinical quality, patient flow, throughput, and operational performance.
• Oversee the Emergency Medicine residency and fellowship academic programs.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership and other clinical departments.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with administration and medical staff.
• Provide approximately 48–72 clinical hours per month, with the remainder dedicated to administrative leadership.
• Support physician, APP, nursing, and multidisciplinary team performance.

Qualifications

• Board Certified in Emergency Medicine through ABEM or AOBEM.
• Emergency Medicine residency trained.
• Minimum 15 years of Emergency Department Director and academic Emergency Medicine experience.
• Eligible for or able to obtain a New Jersey medical license.
• Must be able to begin as soon as credentialing and hospital privileges are completed, typically within 3–4 months.

Working Hours

• 48–72 clinical hours per month.
• Remaining time dedicated to administrative, leadership, academic, and departmental responsibilities.
• Start date: As soon as credentialing and hospital privileges are completed.

Skills

• Strong Emergency Medicine leadership and operational management skills.
• Academic and residency program leadership experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with physicians, APPs, nurses, hospital departments, and executive leadership.
• Strong knowledge of ED throughput, quality, patient flow, and clinical operations.
• Ability to lead a large, high-volume academic Emergency Department.
