Job description
We are seeking a fellowship-trained Physician Medical Director to lead an established orthopedic urgent-care/walk-in service in Rockford, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician with experience in Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Family Medicine, or a related specialty to combine clinical practice with meaningful medical leadership.
The Opportunity
The Medical Director will provide direct patient care while leading clinical quality, provider development, patient access, and operational initiatives. The role offers approximately 80% clinical / 20% administrative responsibilities, with flexibility based on the physician's interests and organizational needs.
The practice provides convenient evaluation and treatment for acute orthopedic, musculoskeletal, sports-related, and work-related injuries, with access to comprehensive ancillary services including X-ray, MRI, physical and occupational therapy, durable medical equipment, and orthotics/prosthetics.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support physicians, APPs, and clinical staff
- Evaluate and treat acute orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries
- Establish and maintain clinical protocols and quality standards
- Perform procedures including splinting, casting, wound care, and injections
- Promote appropriate imaging, referrals, and specialty consultation
- Mentor and develop providers and clinical staff
- Improve patient access, flow, and overall clinical operations
- Collaborate closely with orthopedic subspecialists
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and program development
- Help expand relationships with employers, schools, athletic programs, and community organizations
Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Board certified or board eligible
- Fellowship trained
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Illinois
- Several years of relevant clinical experience
- Strong interest in musculoskeletal and orthopedic care
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Previous medical leadership or urgent-care experience preferred
