We are seeking Board-Certified Emergency Medicine physicians for a long-term locum tenens opportunity supporting newly opening freestanding emergency departments in coastal South Carolina.
This assignment offers 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., with approximately 12 months of coverage anticipated. The freestanding EDs will initially operate under a physician-only coverage model and are expected to average approximately 32–33 patient visits per day. Meditech is used for documentation.
Applicants must be ABEM- or AOBEM-certified and available for night coverage. Emergency privileges may be available for providers with clean credentialing files. Professional liability insurance and travel accommodations are provided.
Job Responsibilities
Provide independent physician coverage in a freestanding emergency department
Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and coordinate transfers when higher-level care is needed
Perform standard emergency medicine procedures
Manage approximately 32–33 patient encounters per day across the department
Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Meditech
Collaborate with nursing, EMS, specialty, and transfer-center teams
Follow all clinical protocols, quality standards, and patient-safety requirements
Provide consistent coverage for 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
Qualifications
Board certification in Emergency Medicine through ABEM or AOBEM
Active South Carolina medical license or willingness to obtain one
Current DEA registration
Current ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS certifications, as required
Recent Emergency Medicine clinical experience
Ability to work 12-hour night shifts
Clean credentialing file preferred for emergency privileges
COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption
Strong clinical judgment and ability to practice independently in a freestanding ED setting
Working Hours
Night coverage is required

Management of high-acuity and low-acuity ED patients
Ability to work independently in a freestanding ED setting
Stabilization and transfer of critically ill or injured patients
Emergency procedures and rapid clinical decision-making
Efficient patient-flow and time management
Meditech EMR documentation
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Comfort working 12-hour overnight shifts
Adaptability within newly established emergency departments
