Low-volume Emergency Medicine with the backup you want when you need it.
We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician for an direct hire opportunity in Minnesota. With approximately 8,000 annual ER visits, this is an attractive opportunity for a physician who enjoys Emergency Medicine but would prefer a more manageable pace than a busy metropolitan ED.
The facility is a Level IV Trauma Center with Epic EMR and strong clinical support. An in-house Hospitalist is always staffed and handles admissions, while additional physician, pediatric, surgical, neurological, radiology, and transfer resources are available when needed.
Job Responsibilities
Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries.
Perform appropriate emergency procedures within scope of practice and granted privileges.
Initiate emergency resuscitation and stabilization when clinically necessary.
Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other appropriate diagnostic testing.
Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.
Determine appropriate patient disposition, including discharge, admission, observation, or transfer.
Coordinate admissions with the in-house Hospitalist team, which is responsible for admitted patients.
Consult available specialty and telemedicine resources when appropriate.
Coordinate transfers to higher levels of care when necessary.
Provide appropriate patient and family education, discharge instructions, and follow-up recommendations.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic EMR.
Follow facility trauma protocols, stroke protocols, clinical guidelines, and medical staff requirements.
Collaborate with nursing, hospitalists, radiology, consulting physicians, EMS, and other members of the care team.
Qualifications
ACLS required
ATLS or CALS with Trauma Module required
ATLS/CALS requirement may be waived for ABEM-certified physicians who can demonstrate prior completion, subject to facility approval
Required stroke certification(s) must be current
NPDB report required with presentation
COVID-19 vaccination required by the facility
Must satisfy all facility credentialing and privileging requirements
Approximately 90-day credentialing timeline
Working Hours
Hospitalist team responsible for admissions
24/7 pediatric provider availability
24/7 general surgeon on call
E-backup available through Sanford One Call
Amwell available for Neurology consultations
Radiology onsite 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Overnight Radiology available on call with approximately a 20-minute response time
Additional second ED coverage on weekends and holidays
Skills
Ability to independently evaluate and manage acute illnesses and injuries
Emergency resuscitation and airway-management skills
Trauma evaluation and stabilization
Ability to recognize and manage potentially time-sensitive neurological and stroke presentations
Appropriate use of telemedicine and specialty consultation resources
Ability to determine when a patient requires admission versus transfer to a higher level of care
Strong procedural skills appropriate for an Emergency Department setting
Excellent clinical judgment and independent decision-making
Ability to work collaboratively with Hospitalists and consulting providers
Strong patient and family communication
Efficient and accurate Epic EMR documentation
