Job description

Job description A Seattle, WA emergency department is seeking 2 full-time locum Emergency Medicine physicians to start ASAP, pending credentialing, for an ongoing need through 2027. Pay is $325/hr. This role is built around varied shift coverage rather than a fixed block, the facility is looking for a provider who can commit to roughly 2 weeks of coverage per month (about 15 shifts) on an ongoing basis, and strongly prefers a single physician covering full-time hours over multiple providers splitting smaller pieces. This is a local assignment, no flights, and an active Washington license is required, IMLC is not accepted at this time.

Job Responsibilities

Provide high-quality emergency medical care including evaluation, treatment, and disposition of patients across a mostly medical, low-trauma, medium-to-high acuity case mix. Work collaboratively with attending physicians to manage a broad spectrum of emergency conditions. Ensure effective patient handoffs and communication with consultants, hospitalists, and other care teams. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes. Be willing and able to work varied shifts based on the facility's day-to-day needs, including AM, mid, and PM blocks now, with night shifts (6p-3a or 10p-7a) potentially added in 2027.

Qualifications

ABEM or AOBEM board certified or board eligible. Emergency Medicine residency-trained. Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience required, this is a hard requirement, not a preference. Active Washington medical license required, IMLC not accepted. ACLS, BLS, PALS, and DEA certifications required. Clean background and malpractice history required, any prior action on license is disqualifying.

Working Hours

Full-time, varied shifts based on facility need. Current shift blocks include AM (7a-4p weekdays, 7a-3p weekends), Mid (11a-8p daily), and PM (2p-11p weekdays, 3p-11p weekends). Provider must be willing to work across all shift types as scheduled, roughly 15 shifts per month for ongoing coverage. Some holiday coverage included.

Skills

Comfortable in a mostly medical, low-trauma, medium-to-high acuity urban ED environment averaging 8-14 admissions and 8-14 patients per day. EPIC EMR experience preferred. Strong adaptability to a varied, non-fixed shift schedule, and reliability for sustained full-time coverage over placing a single physician above splitting the role across several part-time providers.
