Job description

Job description Berkshire Medical Center, a 298-bed community teaching hospital and flagship of Berkshire Health Systems, is seeking a board certified Emergency Medicine physician (ABEM) for a night-focused locum assignment. The provider will float between the BMC main campus and the North Adams satellite ED. Pay rate is $325/hr across all shift lengths. This is a local candidates only assignment, no flight coverage provided. Credentialing is expedited for temps with a clean background. Hotel is covered by the facility. MA-licensed providers with strong night availability will be prioritized.

Job Responsibilities

Provide direct emergency medical care to patients of all ages presenting to the ED. Float coverage between BMC and the North Adams satellite facility as scheduled. Supervise and monitor incoming paramedic and ambulance radio traffic. Respond to on-call pages within the required 30-minute window per hospital bylaws. Coordinate with the hospitalist and admitting service on patient handoffs, admissions are not the responsibility of the EM physician. Work alongside APP coverage present on every shift.

Qualifications

ABEM board certified, or board eligible within 5 years of residency completion. Active BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications required. Active Massachusetts medical license highly preferred, MA-licensed candidates will be prioritized. Clean background and malpractice history required for expedited temp credentialing. Self-query NPDB report required, pulled within 30 days of presentation. Must be local to the area, this assignment does not provide flight travel.

Working Hours

Shift options of 8, 11, or 12 hours, scheduled across 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Night coverage is the primary need. No call responsibilities beyond the 30-minute on-call response window. No code responsibilities.

Skills

Meditech EMR experience preferred. Comfortable managing high-acuity presentations across all age groups in a Level III trauma setting. Strong radio communication skills for paramedic and ambulance supervision. Adaptable to a floating, multi-site coverage model.
