Seeking a highly qualified physician to serve as Contracted EMS Medical Director, providing clinical leadership and medical oversight for one of Oregon’s largest and most advanced fire-based EMS systems.
This role is ideal for a physician passionate about prehospital medicine, system design, and high-impact population health—combining strategic leadership with hands-on EMS system engagement.

🩺 Position Responsibilities
🧠 Clinical Leadership & System Oversight
- Provide full medical direction for EMS protocols and standing orders
- Oversee clinical standards of care and system-wide EMS practice
- Ensure compliance with EMS laws, regulations, and peer review protections
📊 Quality Improvement & Performance
- Lead CQI initiatives, case reviews, and morbidity & mortality analysis
- Monitor EMS performance metrics and implement system improvements
- Oversee documentation integrity and clinical outcome improvement programs
🚒 Field & Operational Integration
- Conduct regular ride-alongs and field observation (minimum quarterly)
- Provide real-time clinical guidance during high-risk incidents
- Integrate with frontline crews and Incident Command System (ICS)
🎓 Education & Credentialing
- Lead provider credentialing and clinical privileging processes
- Deliver EMS education, simulations, and skills verification
- Support onboarding and ongoing training programs
🤝 System Collaboration
- Coordinate with hospitals, trauma systems, dispatch, and public health partners
- Represent EMS leadership in regional and system-level meetings
- Oversee controlled substances compliance and diversion prevention
🧾 Reporting & Administration
- Submit quarterly and annual system performance reports
- Maintain licensure and required EMS certifications (including ICS/NIMS)
⏱️ Time Commitment
- Estimated: ~8 hours/week average
- Minimum 6 hours/week in person
- Quarterly field ride-alongs (minimum 4 hours)
- Quarterly education delivery (minimum 4 hours)
- Monthly CQI participation required
📌 Minimum Requirements
- Active, unrestricted medical license (Oregon required for supervision)
- Qualification as Supervising Physician per Oregon EMS regulations
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Strong background in EMS medical direction or public safety medicine
💰 Compensation Structure
- Annual Flat Fee: $80,000 – $110,000 (core services)
- Paid in monthly installments
- Out-of-scope hourly rate (for pre-approved additional services)
