Job description
This position is for a Physician (Emergency Medicine) to support coverage at a Level 2 trauma center. The provider must be licensed in Indiana and have current ABOEM or ABEM certification. The assignment involves delivering high-quality emergency care across multiple shifts, both day and night, across various days of the week, to meet the hospital's staffing needs. The locum will contribute to a busy hospital environment with an annual patient volume of approximately 36,000, utilizing Cerner EMR. The role includes supervising medical students, residents, CNMs, and APCs, and providing backup support in specialties such as General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedics, and Plastic Surgery.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage a broad range of ED presentations in a busy program (approx. 36,000 annual ED volume)
• Document efficiently in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with on-site teams and available specialty backup (e.g., General Surgery, ENT, Ortho, Plastics)
• Supervise and support clinical learners and team members as applicable (medical students, residents, CNMs, and APCs)
Qualifications
• Board Certified/Board Eligible Emergency Medicine
• Accepted boards: ABEM or AOBEM
• Minimum 5+ years Emergency Medicine experience (trauma center experience preferred)
• Required certifications (per site requirements):
• BLS
• ATLS (site notes indicate it may only need to have been obtained at least once in career)
• Credentialing note: documents are generally required upfront before the application is requested (licenses, COIs, labs, etc.)
Working Hours
• Tue–Fri: 6a–3p, 10a–8p, 3p–12a, 8p–6a
• Mon: 3p–1a (and other shifts similar to above)
• Sat–Sun: 6a–2p, 10a–8p, 2p–10p, 8p–6a
• Coverage need is 20+ shifts/month across sites, and providers should be willing to offer 4+ shifts/month and be open to all shift types to be presented.
Skills
• Efficient, accurate Cerner documentation and throughput mindset
• Confident communicator and collaborator with consulting services and onsite staff
• Ability to flex across a variety of shifts (days/nights/weekends)
• Comfort supervising and supporting trainees and APCs in a team-based model
