Emergency Medicine Physician (MD/DO) – Locum Tenens Opportunity
Waynesburg, Pennsylvania

An Emergency Medicine locum opportunity is available in Washington, PA, covering two affiliated emergency departments. This assignment offers a dynamic clinical environment with strong support staff and manageable patient volumes across both locations.

Assignment Overview

  • Setting: Emergency Department (non-trauma centers)
  • Locations Covered:
    • Main hospital: ~52,000 annual visits (busy department)
    • Affiliated site: ~18,000 annual visits (8 treatment rooms)
  • Patient Volume:
    • 1.8 – 2.0 patients per hour
    • Main site: 18–20 patients per shift
    • Affiliated site: 16–24 patients per shift
  • Schedule: Flexible shifts (details provided upon request)

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat a wide range of emergency cases
  • Perform standard emergency procedures, including:
    • Chest tubes
    • Cricothyrotomy
    • Other typical EM procedures
  • Enter admission orders (ED Bridge orders) as needed
  • Supervise APPs (minimal oversight; providers work independently)

Support & Staffing

  • APP/Mid-level coverage available:
    • 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
    • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Hospitalist team on staff at both locations
  • Admissions handled with minimal ED provider involvement

Facility Highlights

  • Main Site: High-volume, fast-paced emergency department
  • Affiliated Site: Lower census (average ~8 patients/day), quieter setting with limited codes and rapid response events
  • Code coverage:
    • Main site: Intensivist leads codes
    • Affiliated site: ED physician leads codes

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible
  • Non-Emergency Medicine boarded physicians must have: BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Pennsylvania license not required at time of application (will accept candidates needing to obtain licensure)
  • Experience with standard emergency procedures required
