Job description

Job description

A healthcare system is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician (MD/DO) to provide locum coverage within a community hospital emergency department. This opportunity offers a balanced patient volume with full scope emergency care responsibilities in a collaborative environment.

The physician will provide comprehensive emergency care while managing a broad range of acute conditions and procedures. Although specialty services are available on call, providers must be comfortable operating independently and performing key emergency procedures when immediate intervention is required. The department supports both adult and pediatric patients and maintains a steady but manageable patient flow.

This assignment supports a Level IV trauma center with a team environment that typically includes advanced practice clinicians during daytime and some evening hours.

• Emergency department volume approximately 11,000 visits annually
• 10 beds in the emergency department
• Staffed with APC support
• EMR: Epic

Job Responsibilities

The physician will provide emergency department coverage delivering evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of acute medical conditions. Responsibilities include managing trauma, stroke, and urgent medical presentations while maintaining efficient patient throughput in the emergency department. The provider must be comfortable performing emergency procedures such as airway management, central line placement, chest tube insertion, lumbar punctures, and FAST ultrasound exams. Because surgical services are available but not immediately bedside, the physician must be capable of stabilizing patients and managing critical interventions when necessary.

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine
• Licensed in Wisconsin or eligible through the IMLC
• ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
• Proficiency using Epic EMR within an emergency department setting
• Strong procedural competency including airway management and emergency interventions
• Ability to function independently in a community emergency department environment

Coverage includes 12 hour shifts:
• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

• Intubation and airway management
