A healthcare network in New York City is looking to add a licensed Psychologist to join their Emergency Department team at one of their Bronx facilities. In this role, the Psychologist will be responsible for providing professional / clinical services to patients in the Emergency Department to assess and address the need for psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment, disposition and follow-up as appropriate.

  • Hours: 8am to 4pm

Responsibilities:

The Psychologist will:

  • Perform a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Consult with the Attending Psychiatrist for evaluation of findings of the psychiatric, and health screening in order to make prospective decisions about treatment.
  • Manage psychiatric emergencies by determining the level of risk, and initiating and coordinating effective emergency care
  • Contact the patient's outpatient psychiatrist (or clinician) to exchange clinical information
  • Develop a differential diagnosis derived from the collection and synthesis of assessment data
  • Consult with other members of the interdisciplinary team to determine, evaluate, and plan immediate treatment interventions, goals/objectives
  • Provide debriefing to Emergency Department staff after critical incidents
  • Coordinate with risk management team and NYPD to facilitate psychiatric treatment of Emergency Department patients who are in custody
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of post-licensure experience working with a Severely Mentally Ill population
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D.in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program
  • 1-year internship approved by the applicant's graduate program

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of DSM 5
  • Knowledge of a variety of theoretical models for the treatment of patients with psychiatric illness & the ability to apply them
  • Knowledge of the OMH/Joint Commission regulations as they relate to Departments of Psychiatry
  • Knowledge of charting requirements
