Job description

Advance your expertise in Cardiothoracic Transplantation, Mechanical Support, and Cardiothoracic rescue.

AdventHealth Orlando invites applications from graduating critical care fellows and intensivists currently in practice for its Advanced Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Critical Care. This immersive, one-year program is designed for physicians seeking focused expertise in the care of patients with complex cardiac and pulmonary disease.

Whether you are completing fellowship or pursuing additional training after years in practice, an individualized educational plan will build on your clinical strengths and support your career goals.

Focused Clinical Training

  • Heart and lung transplantation: Pretransplant stabilization, perioperative critical care, graft dysfunction, and postoperative complications.
  • ECMO and ECPR: Patient selection, support configurations, supervised cannulation experience, circuit management, troubleshooting, and liberation from support.
  • Cardiogenic shock and mechanical circulatory support: Multidisciplinary shock management, Impella, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and durable ventricular assist devices.
  • TEE and bedside cardiovascular ultrasound: Supervised training in imaging and hemodynamic assessment to guide clinical decisions.
  • Post-cardiotomy management and rescue: Recognition and management of ventricular failure, bleeding, tamponade, refractory respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.

An Experience Tailored to Your Goals

The fellowship combines supervised CTICU practice with focused electives, simulation, multidisciplinary conferences, and longitudinal faculty mentorship. Graduated clinical responsibility reflects each fellow’s experience and demonstrated competence. Procedural training is guided by supervision and institutional credentialing.

Fellows will complete a mentored project in research, medical education, patient safety, or quality improvement, with opportunities to develop teaching and multidisciplinary leadership skills.
