Schedule

• Day coverage: 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM
• Evening coverage: 4:30 PM – 6:30 AM
• In-house trauma + critical care coverage
• Rotating service coverage with dual attending model during daytime

Patient Volume

• 30–50 trauma inpatients under service (shared coverage)
• 10–20 trauma activations per 24 hours (majority blunt trauma 90–95%)
• 0–8 emergency general surgery consults daily
• 0–3 emergency operative cases (urgent/emergent only)

Clinical Scope

• Inpatient trauma surgery and critical care management
• Emergency general surgery coverage as needed
• Trauma resuscitation and operative intervention
• ICU-level management of critically ill surgical patients
• Multidisciplinary coordination across trauma, anesthesia, ICU, and surgical teams

Procedures

• Trauma activations (blunt and penetrating trauma)
• Emergency laparotomy and operative stabilization
• Perforated viscus and other emergent abdominal cases
• Acute surgical interventions as needed in trauma setting

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Inpatient Critical Care and Trauma Surgeon to join a high-volume trauma service within a large, non-profit integrated health system in Massachusetts. Provider will manage a high-acuity trauma and emergency general surgery population alongside a multidisciplinary team, including APPs and residents. This role involves both operative and non-operative management of critically ill trauma patients in a fast-paced academic-supported environment.

Support Structure

• 2 APPs during daytime coverage
• 1 APP at night
• Residents (PGY3–PGY4) supporting service
• Intern support during day and night shifts

Ideal Candidate

• Fellowship trained in Surgical Critical Care
• Strong trauma and acute care surgery experience
• Comfortable managing high-volume trauma activations
• Experience working in teaching hospital environments
• Ability to function in high-acuity, team-based settings
