A large cardiovascular program is seeking a Locum Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist to provide inpatient coverage across two connected hospitals on the North Campus. This position focuses on managing complex heart failure patients and working alongside a dedicated heart failure service with strong subspecialty support. The assignment offers ongoing coverage with a preference for physicians who can provide at least two weeks per month of availability, with potential locum to permanent opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
Manage complex cardiovascular conditions including VAD patients
Collaborate with hospitalists and critical care teams managing patient admissions
Work closely with APPs and multidisciplinary cardiovascular teams
Participate in on call coverage for assigned patients
Document patient care and clinical activity using Epic EMR
Qualifications
• Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology required
• Active Indiana medical license or eligibility through IMLC
• ACLS, BLS, and ABLS certifications required
• Experience managing advanced heart failure patients and ventricular assist devices (VADs)
Working Hours
• Patient Volume: Approximately 12 patients per shift
• Call Type: Beeper call with a 1:3 call rotation
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes
• Preferred Availability: Minimum 2 weeks per month
• Start Date: June 2026 (or as soon as credentialed)
• Credentialing Timeline: Approximately 60 days
Skills
• Experience managing VAD patients and complex cardiovascular cases
• Strong inpatient clinical decision making
• Ability to collaborate with hospitalists, critical care teams, and APPs
• Efficient workflow management and documentation in Epic EMR
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills
