Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic Surgeon (MD/DO) to provide continuous cardiothoracic surgical coverage in Grand Junction, Colorado. This assignment spans 7 months and includes full 24-hour call and clinical responsibilities to support the Heart & Vascular team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history, physical exams, and diagnostic evaluations relevant to cardiothoracic surgery.

  • Diagnose and manage chest, heart, and lung conditions requiring surgical intervention.

  • Provide pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care.

  • Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding treatment options and care plans.

  • Document all patient encounters thoroughly for compliance, continuity, billing, and quality standards.

  • Collaborate with cardiology, ICU, anesthesia, and surgical teams, providing leadership and clinical direction.

  • Refer to or coordinate with specialty services when appropriate.

  • Maintain availability for office visits, electronic communication, and full on-call responsibilities as required.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and patient-safety processes.

  • Represent and uphold the mission and values of Intermountain Health.

Qualifications

Education:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical or osteopathic institution

  • Completed residency in cardiothoracic surgery

Licensure & Certifications:

  • Active Colorado medical license (or ability to obtain)

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery

  • DEA license (state-appropriate)

  • BLS or ACLS per hospital requirements

Assignment Details

  • Duration: 7 months (01/01/2026–08/01/2026)

  • Coverage: Continuous 24-hour call

  • Credentialing: Updated CV + required documentation for submission

  • Interviews: Resume review and interview may be required
