Locum Tenens General Inpatient Cardiologist

Location: New York
Specialty: General Inpatient/Non-Invasive Cardiology
Anticipated Start: Approximately November 2026
Duration: Approximately six months, with a strong possibility of extension

Coverage Schedule

• Two weeks of coverage per month
• Two weekends per month
• 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
• Recurring block availability strongly preferred
• Exact rotation and start date to be confirmed

Position Overview

St. Charles Hospital is seeking a Board-Certified Cardiologist to provide hospital-based General Cardiology coverage while the facility recruits for a permanent replacement.

The locum physician will provide inpatient consultations, daily rounding and management of patients with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient General Cardiology consultations
• Round on assigned and follow-up patients
• Evaluate and manage patients with:
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Chest pain and acute coronary syndromes
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Hypertension
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Syncope and other general cardiovascular conditions
• Review EKGs, telemetry and relevant diagnostic studies
• Develop treatment plans and discharge recommendations
• Coordinate care with hospitalists, Emergency Medicine, critical care and other consulting services
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and the interdisciplinary care team
• Complete all clinical documentation accurately and promptly

Potential Diagnostic or Procedural Responsibilities

Exact requirements remain subject to client confirmation and may include:

• EKG interpretation
• Echocardiogram interpretation
• Stress-test interpretation
• Nuclear Cardiology studies
• TEE
• Cardioversion
• Participation in rapid-response or code coverage

Required Qualifications

• MD or DO
• Fellowship trained in Cardiovascular Disease
• Board Certified in Cardiology required
• Active, unrestricted New York medical license
• Active DEA and appropriate prescriptive authority
• Current BLS and ACLS
• Recent inpatient General Cardiology experience
• Ability to work independently in an acute-care hospital setting
• Ability to provide recurring two-week blocks and weekend coverage

Board Eligible candidates will not be considered.

Licensing and Credentialing

• New York is not an IMLC state
• An active New York medical license is required
• Temporary hospital privileges are available for qualified physicians with a complete and clean credentialing file
• Candidates should be prepared to promptly provide all required credentialing and privileging documentation
