Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologist Locum Opportunity – Fort Myers, FL
We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist for a weekend locum opportunity in Fort Myers, Florida, beginning December 2026. This assignment provides coverage for a high-volume Advanced Heart Failure program managing complex heart failure, cardiogenic shock, Impella, and ECMO patients within an integrated cardiac and surgical program.
Assignment Details
- Start Date: December 4, 2026
- End Date: March 31, 2027
- Assignment Length: Approximately 17 weeks
- Full weekend coverage needed
- Advanced Heart Failure Cardiology
Schedule
- Friday 5:00 PM–Monday 8:00 AM
- Saturday and Sunday rounding required
- Approximately 8 hours onsite each day for rounding
- Coverage after onsite rounding transitions to call
- Overnight call required
- Provider must be available for the entire weekend coverage period
- Daily overtime applies after 8 hours

- Advanced Heart Failure Center
- Integrated Advanced Heart Failure Cardiology and Surgical program
- Inpatient and clinic coverage
- High-acuity cardiac patient population
- No telehealth
- High-volume and growing Advanced Heart Failure program
Patient Population
- Advanced and complex heart failure
- Cardiogenic shock
- Patients requiring short-term mechanical circulatory support
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide Advanced Heart Failure Cardiology coverage
- Perform weekend inpatient rounding
- Provide overnight call coverage
- Manage complex and advanced heart failure patients
- Manage cardiogenic shock
- Manage short-term mechanical circulatory support
- Impella management
- ECMO management
- Provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic heart failure care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary cardiac and surgical teams
- Manage clinic patients independently when applicable
Mechanical Circulatory Support
- Percutaneous Impella
- Surgical Impella
- ECMO
- No LVAD implantation currently performed
- Heart transplantation is not performed onsite
- Program works closely with 4 regional heart transplant referral centers
Support Staff
- Multidisciplinary Advanced Heart Failure team
- APP typically rounds with the physician in the hospital
- Physician must be comfortable rounding independently if APP coverage is unavailable due to PTO or CME
- Clinic patients are managed independently by the physician
Requirements
- MD or DO
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by ABIM in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Heart Failure fellowship
- Proficiency with short-term mechanical circulatory support
- Impella experience required
- ECMO experience required
- More than 5 years of post-fellowship experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working within a large multidisciplinary team
Submission Requirements
- NPDB report must be no more than 3 months old
- Clear NPDB required
- Candidates with NPDB reports/issues will not be accepted
