Position Overview
HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital is seeking a full-time Medical Director of Anesthesiology to lead an established, patient-centered anesthesia team in Tampa, Florida. The Facility Medical Director partners with the Operations team, Hospital Administration, and advanced practice provider (APP) leadership to advance clinical excellence, operational performance, and a respectful, collaborative workplace.
The ideal candidate is an experienced anesthesia leader with strong communication and relationship-building skills who can represent the department as a trusted hospital partner. Previous leadership experience and proficiency in regional anesthesia blocks are required.

Job Responsibilities
• Provide clinical and operational leadership for the anesthesiology department while modeling a patient-first culture.
• Collaborate with hospital administration, operations, and APP leadership to align departmental and organizational goals.
• Promote high standards of patient safety, clinical quality, healthcare outcomes, and efficient care delivery.
• Monitor quality metrics, operational efficiencies, team engagement, and clinician retention.
• Build productive relationships across the perioperative team and foster a mutually respectful work environment.
• Support team communication, accountability, and continuous performance improvement.
Qualifications
• Physician anesthesiologist with previous leadership experience.
• Demonstrated strength in communication, relationship building, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Proficiency in regional anesthesia blocks required.
• Commitment to quality outcomes, team development, and operational excellence.
Working Hours
• Anesthesia Care Team model with 4 anesthesiologists and 10 CRNAs; physician-to-CRNA supervision ratio of 1:4.
• Coverage includes 10 operating rooms, cardiac catheterization laboratory, interventional radiology, and endoscopy.
• Complex case mix includes general surgery, bariatrics, orthopedics/spine, vascular, neurology/neurosurgery, gynecology, GI, endoscopy, ENT, and urology.
• No trauma, obstetrics, or pediatric cases.
• Approximately 25 surgical cases per day.
• Average 45-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; beeper call shared equitably among physicians.
